I’ll be the first to say that winter is not my favorite season. Really, I don’t mind it until mid-January. Then I remember it is still going to be cold for another 3 months and it feels like a never-ending season of cold and darkness. And moving to Michigan where it is snowy like 5 months a year didn’t really help me love winter more! But today I wanted to share some of the tips I have utilized to beat the winter blues and actually enjoy winter!
Make a seasonal bucket list-
If you have followed along for a while, you know that I LOVE lists, especially bucket lists or my 101 in 1001 list. Nothing makes me want to go out and do stuff like putting it on a list. It can be so hard to think of fun things to do in the winter, so add some things to your list like ice skating, a coffee shop you want to try, a museum, or even a fun weekend getaway with friends. Another bonus tip with this one is make plans in advance. For some reason, in the summer it is so easy for me to spontaneously make plans the day of with friends to do something fun. But in the winter, if I wait until the day of, I will opt for staying home. I beat this by making plans at least a few days in advance and not letting myself back out of them!
Focus on an indoor hobby-
While binging the latest show on Netflix may be fun, it is always a good idea to have some hobbies to do on weeknights when it is cold and dark and you just want to stay indoors. My go-to is reading a good book, but this winter I am trying to watercolor paint more often too! If you need some book recommendations, checkout my top 10 favorite books from 2018. Youtube also has great tutorials if you are trying to learn to watercolor paint or another creative hobby!
Get cozy-
One thing I love about winter is how cozy I can be all the time. I am a person who is almost always cold and almost always under a blanket if I am at home, so I love that I can curl up under multiple blankets and wear cozy hoodies and scarves in the winter! I also have candles burning a lot more in the winter since they add such a cozy vibe and smell delicious!
Enjoy all the hot drinks-
There are so many coffees, teas, and hot chocolates in the world to try, so consider breaking out from your go-to and pick something new! While it is great to have tried and true items, it can also be fun to break your normal routine and try a new flavor! I shared a cinnamon hot vanilla drink recipe way back in 2013, so click here to find the recipe and see how much my blog has improved in the past 5 years!
Attack your goals-
Since the new year is still fresh, now is the perfect time to keep working on goals you set! Many goals can be worked on from in your home, whether it is a workout goal, a blogging goal, a personal goal, etc. Personally I love focusing on one goal for a specific time, whether that is a day or a week or a month. Consider picking out just one of your goals and working towards it for a week this winter!
How do you make the most of winter? What is your favorite thing to do during cold months? Share in the comments!
