Balloon Show Summer 2018

Last weekend was the weekend of the balloon show near where I live, so I spent Thursday and Friday night watching them! Thursday night was the “Splash and Dash” where the balloons fly in to a lake and try to drop something onto a target. It was pretty entertaining and something I had never seen before.

If you look closely at this picture above you can see all the birds flying out of the trees because they were scared of the balloons!

Then Friday night the balloons all launch from the field and try to follow the first balloon that launches. This was pretty neat because they all flew the same way trying to follow the first balloon. The weather was also perfect this night, which is rare for balloon shows! Previous years it has been too windy to fly or one night last year it was even not windy enough!

Another thing I had never seen before was a balloon without a basket! Apparently these are called a cloudhopper, and the pilot has the burners strapped directly on their backs and is just harnessed in!

Loved seeing all the balloons in the distance!

This heart balloon and the dragon were two of my favorites! I always just love the special shape balloons though.

And last but not least the balloon glow at night! One of my favorite parts since they look so pretty lit up and it is fun to walk out on the field among them!

This is probably my last summer at this balloon show since I will be in Michigan all summer next summer for grad school! If you want to see my previous posts from this balloon show, you can checkout 2016 and 2017 as well!

Have you ever been to a hot air balloon show? Is it on your bucket list to go? Let me know in the comments below!
