I wanted to do another laid back post to catch you guys up with what has been going on in my life! Last week I had my last two midterms back to back, so it was a stressful week to say the least. But I was able to drive home after classes on Thursday, and it was so nice to relax and spend a few days with family. Plus, it was in the upper 70s on Friday and Saturday, so the weather was amazing!
One of my favorite parts of this semester has been observing in the clinic. I am in my last year of undergrad, so one of my classes involves observing a first year grad student in the clinic on campus. The client I am observing is a pediatric client, which has been great since I originally went into speech pathology thinking I wanted to work with kids! Even though we have only had a few weeks of therapy, it has been awesome to see the great progress my client has already made.
Going along with that, my favorite class this semester has been child language development. So far I have learned so much in that class, and I find myself analyzing random kids who speak in public. Is that weird? Maybe. But many of my speech path friends say they do this too so I don’t think it’s too bad lol. After our midterm in this class, one of my good friends and I went to an apple orchard to celebrate with donuts and cider. While we were there we overheard a baby babbling and we both identified what stage of babbling he was doing at the same time since it was fresh in our mind from the midterm. I love that with speech pathology I have been able to apply so much of what I have been learning this year, either with my client or when I am out around other people.
Also does anyone else feel like this semester is flying by? I can’t believe we are already past midterms and that it is almost November! I also start a bowling class today that I have for the rest of the semester, so I am excited to start that and hopefully get better at bowling?
One thing that has been taking up a bit of my time the past few weeks is getting allergy shots. I began getting them at the end of September, and I have had to go get two shots every Monday and Friday. Basically, I have had really bad allergies that have gotten even worse over the past few years, so after getting tested this summer I decided to start allergy shots. It is a long process (3-5 years), but hopefully it will be worth it in the end!
What have you been up to this month? Let me know in the comments below!
