Today I am finally sharing how I painted my globe! If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen a few posts hinting at this project, but today I decided to share how it turned out.
For months I had been looking for an old globe to paint. When my school had a big garage sale type event, I scored this beauty for only $1! And if there had been 2 I probably would have bought two to paint in 2 different ways…
What You Need:
-an old globe
-different sized paint brushes
(I used the large one shown above, a pretty small one, and a tiny one for the smallest details)
-Acrylic paint
-A paint marker (if you want to add words!)
Here it is after the first ocean coat. As you can see, it needed about 3 coats before it was opaque. Overall it took me about 6 hours to paint, but that was split up into two days. My friend (whose head you can kind of see in the picture above lol) painted a smaller one and finished in one afternoon. I chose to spend more time on mine and make it as close to perfect as possible since I knew it would be displayed for years to come.
And honestly, the 6 hours went by super fast because during the first afternoon I had my friend to talk to and during the last day I was watching TV too. This would be a great project to do during the summer if you are bored, or even during the winter or on a rainy day when you want to stay inside!
Here is another look at the finished piece. I was so happy to find a globe that already had a gold stand that was in pretty good condition so I wouldn’t have to paint that too.
I have to say, this is probably my favorite DIY I have done, and it is one of the cheapest. Sure I got a few looks from people when I was carrying a big globe out to my car… but hey who has an adorable decoration piece now? Me.
