Last night Lilly Pulitzer announced it had a collaboration with Target coming out on April 19, 2015. While most people were excited, I did see a few pessimistic people in the crowd (aka on Twitter.) Today I wanted to share a few thoughts on why I think Lilly Pulitzer made the right choice!
First off, I live in a place where you cannot buy Lilly Pulitzer. The only Lilly I have seen is a pen once at TJ Maxx, if that gives you an idea of how serious I am. So the fact that it is coming to Target and it will be more easily accessible to people who don’t live near Lilly stores is great! I am just crossing my fingers my Target will have a decent selection!
Second, I saw some people say that it will make Lilly a less authentic brand and pieces won’t be as special since almost anyone can buy them. While this could be true to a point, I think that it is also a good way to for people to get their feet wet in the ocean that is Lilly Pulitzer. I know if I am able to try something for a little cheaper, whether it is through a collaboration like this or a good sale, I am more likely to buy it. And if I buy it and love it, I will probably go and buy actual Lilly Pulitzer pieces from their stores or online. I think this is a smart move for Lilly Pulitzer and they will gain a lot of new customers, and some will stick around and purchase more Lilly in the future.
Third, I really love the timing. I am sad that it will be after my trip to Puerto Rico, but it is just in time to stock up for summer!
Lastly, for those who are worried about the quality, there is no need to worry yet. It is still over 3 months away, so let’s put our time to good use instead of worrying. I wouldn’t be surprised if the quality is a little less than normal, but it doesn’t hurt to go and see for yourself once it comes out!
