How I Made a 101 in 1001 List!

Ever since I posted my 101 in 1001, I have had so many people ask me how I came up with 101 things. I have also had many people say things along the lines of it is a cool idea and they wish they could make one, but they can’t think of 101 things. Or I have seen so many people say they began to make one but never finished or worked on anything on their list. That makes me really sad, so today I am going to give you a few tips on how to come up with 101 things!

1. Write down every idea, no matter how crazy it is.

When I began writing mine, I wanted to keep it to things that weren’t too “out there.” By the end, I was adding lots of things in that I probably won’t end up accomplishing, but it will still be fun to try! I recommend writing down every idea you have, and you can always take it off before you make the final list if you don’t like it. It took me a few days to come up with 101 things, so I ended up using every idea I had!

2. Don’t just focus on yourself.

Add a few things to your list that you want to do for other people! Some can be really easy, while others can take a bit more planning.

3. Read other bucket lists and 101 in 1001 lists.

I can’t even count the number of lists I read while preparing my list. By the end, many were repetitive, but everyone always added a few new things to their lists, and I ended up inspired from reading them!

4. Ask friends.

I have a few friends that I asked what I should put on mine/what they would put on their list if they ever made one. I actually got quite a few great ideas from them!

5. Think of what you have always wanted to do.

But do remember to be reasonable. For me, I might want to travel to somewhere like Italy or Greece, but that happening in the next 2.75 years is extremely unlikely. So I wouldn’t put something like that on my list. But 10 years down the road when I am out of college, it might be possible and I might add it then. Could I add things like traveling to a new state? Sure, because I can make that happen if I try! If you have always wanted to try a certain recipe or take a class, now is the time!

Now, you might be wondering how to motivate yourself to complete all 101 things once you have them. My best tip is to read your list often and work towards one thing every day. It can be a little thing or a big thing, but just keep them in mind!
