Today’s post is another rare weekend post and it is also a slightly rambley one. But since summer is at least half over for most people, there was something I wanted to discuss.
Many people seem to think that it is impossible to go on fun adventures or have a memorable summer unless they travel to some new and exotic location. I am here today to tell you that is NOT true. But by all means, if you have the chance to travel please do take advantage of that and go explore a new place.
I have lived in the same town my entire life. More precisely, I have even lived in the same house my entire life. Yet I am still discovering new places to explore and new restaurants or cafes to try. Summer is the perfect time for finding new places. Make plans to go to that park you have been wanting to explore or go to that cafe you have always wanted to try. Here are a few tips to get out of your normal routine and find new places:
-check social media-
Many times people will post an Instagram or even tweet about where they are or a fun place they went. Recently I have seen a few of my friends talking about a drive in theater that is close-ish to where I live. This made me and a few of my other friends realize that we really want to go see a movie there before summer is over.
-geocache-
For those of you who don’t know what geocaching is, click here to read more about it. I have went two different times with friends and it gets you to go to parts of parks or places that you never would have explored before. Plus it is also super fun and it gives you a reason to explore.
-google-
If you live in a bigger town/city there might be a few articles online that share some fun spots near you! Try googling it and see what comes up.
-the penny date-
I forget where I saw this, but recently I read about a fun idea if you don’t know where to go. Every time you are at an intersection you flip a coin. If it is heads you turn left, if it is tails you turn right. Before you begin to pick a number, usually between 10-15 so you don’t end up going too far. Then wherever you end up, you just get out and walk around. This might be difficult if you live in the country (I have a feeling I would probably end up in a corn field if I did this…) but if you live in a city you would definitely end up near some place interesting that you could eat at or try!
-just go-
When all else fails, just gather a few friends and go. Drive until you find an interesting place or just drive to a park and start walking. Even if it seems like it will be boring, you might just end up making some amazing memories.
This summer I am working hard to finish my bucket list and do even more fun things that aren’t on it so I can have a great summer. I am moving away in about 2 months, so if I don’t try places out now, I might not ever get the chance to!
Do you try new places where you live? When was the last time you got out and explored? Share in the comments!
