How To Promote New & Old Blog Content

Sometimes it can be tricky to figure out how to promote your content without feeling like you are a salesman, but there are lots of great ways to promote new posts! Today I want to share a few of my favorite tips with you guys.

1. First off, NEVER say things like “but wait, there’s more!” or other things you commonly hear on commercials. Unless you are being funny, then go ahead. 😉 For real though, it seems so impersonal and makes it seem like you are just trying to get your readers to buy things.

2. Promote new posts on Twitter for 1-2 days. I try to tweet 2-3 times the day a post goes up. If it is a giveaway or something special, I will mention it a day or two past the first day, but usually it moves right along into the archives. Make sure each tweet you tweet is worded differently so you don’t bore your followers who happen to see more than one! Also, I don’t recommend putting “NEW POST!” with a link to a post that is 3 or more days old. I am so disappointed when I click into a link and see a post that I already read 3 days before.

3. Pin any pinable pictures onto relevant boards within a few days of the post going live. It is okay to pin it to one of your boards and a few group boards, but don’t pin the same picture to 10 different boards!

4. Post a picture on Instagram to promote your new content. Maybe even include a behind the scenes picture that didn’t make it into the post to give your Instagram followers something new and different!

5. Tweet or Pin old posts if they are relevant. I am really bad at this, but it is a good idea to tweet occasionally about an old post if it is still relevant. For example, it would be a great idea to make Christmas posts resurface in December, but not in May! Along the same lines, I wouldn’t share a summer outfit in January!

6. If there is a linkup for a summer outfit, and you have one from a few months ago, you should link it up! Of course, some linkups only want new posts, but if it doesn’t say anywhere that the post has to be recent, why not?!

7. Add a new graphic to an old post. By doing this, you can reshare it on Pinterest and possibly even other social media outlets!

8. Facebook and Google+  might work well for you, but I never had either because they didn’t seem worth my time. Tell me in the comments if I should try either though! I feel like Facebook is slowly dying and the people who use it regularly are generally older than the majority of my audience. Very few of my friends in real life get on Facebook regularly!

Do you use any of these tips? Do you have any of your own tips to share? Tell me in the comments!
